CANTATICA is a unique, progressive musical organization dedicated to broadening the scope of vocal and instrumental chamber music programming and performance. With special emphasis on American music, CANTATICA aims to promote high quality music of the various cultures of the world. It further aims to enrich, entertain, and expand the cultural offerings of the communities it serves.
The CANTATICA CHAMBER ENSEMBLE is a dynamic, versatile group of professional musicians - solo and ensemble singers and instrumentalists - dedicated to presenting unique, innovative, high quality performances of a broad range of musical styles including classical, contemporary, jazz/popular standard, folk/world, theater/opera, a cappella, and gospel.
The administrative office of CANTATICA is based in Allentown, while the performing forces are in the process of relocating to Philadelphia. Under this structure, the ensemble will audition and rehearse in Philadelphia, and present concerts in both the Philadelphia and Lehigh Valley areas.
An all-new chamber ensemble is currently in the process of being formed, membership to consist of established and emerging professional musicians from Eastern Pennsylvania and Western New Jersey. Included will be singers and a variety of instrumentalists including piano/keyboards, strings, winds, guitar, harp and percussion. Qualifications for CANTATICA include being classically trained, versatile, and highly competent solo and ensemble performers.

About the Executive/Artistic Director and Conductor
Michael Tamte-Horan is a choral conductor, educator and singer of more than 35 years, and an acknowledged leader in creative choral music programming and excellence in choral performance. He has conducted university and community based choral and orchestral organizations from the Mid-West to Eastern United States. A former member and soloist with the renowned Dale Warland Singers, Michael has studied and/or sung with many leading choral conductors in the United States, Canada and Sweden.
As a choral conductor, Michael has always taken the choirs he has lead to new heights, whether it was in recruiting and building the choral program or leading choirs in performances at noted professional organization conventions. He is listed in Who's Who in America, a recipient of the VocalEssence/American Choral Directors Association MN Award for Creative Programming and Excellence in Choral Performance, and a past board member of the American Choral Directors Association. His choirs have been featured at the major professional organization conferences, he has lead choirs on major national and international tours, and he has guest conducted numerous choral festivals in various parts of the United States. He holds degrees from Luther College (BM), the University of Minnesota (MA) and the University of Illinois (EDD).
A champion of all styles and genres of music as well lesser-known yet outstanding musical compositions and composers, Michael has presented highly creative and eclectic programs and uncovered and performed numerous vocal and instrumental works from around the world. He is also an especially strong advocate of American music and programs it regularly. Since the Fall of 2013, he has hosted his own radio program, Hearing Voices, on NPR affiliate, WDIY 88.1 FM, Allentown/Bethlehem, PA, featuring his unique, eclectic and creative programming of vocal and instrumental music.
As Executive/Artistic Director and Conductor of CANTATICA, Michael currently leads the Chamber Ensemble in various concerts and performances, presents clinics and workshops, and serves as Managing Editor of the CANTATICA website and blog. He continues to teach music part time at the collegiate level as well as serve as a quest clinician, conductor and lecturer.
